Fourth Wave Feminism
Not much is truly known about a "Fourth Wave" of Feminism. Is there really a fourth wave or is the third wave still existant? Ealasaid Munro proposes that this this wave has come about due to the increasing global internet use and that it makes way for many internet feminism activists. The internet provides us a quicker way to get and stay connected with people all around the world so spreading the feminist ideals and movements is just as easy as the click of a mouse.
According to #FemFuture: Online Feminism, a report recently published by Columbia University’s Barnard Center for Research on Women, females aged between 18 and 29 are the ‘power users of social networking.’ This means that many females are using online spaces. With this, the internet can function as both "a forum for discussion and as a route for activism" says Munro.
But is just internet use alone enough to deem a whole new generation of Feminsitic ideals and movements? As internet use progresses, online feminism could develop into an a wave by itself but as for now, the concept of "fourth wave" feminism is still is in the unknown.
