Re-describing Women
Part of the third wave's focus was on changing the words used to describe females. Words such as 'slut', 'bitch', and 'whore' were commonly used as terms to call women. And like every other thing in this movement, this did not sit right with many American women. Women campaigned and are still campaigning against the use of these words and other sexual terms used against them until a change is brought about.
The Double Standard
A double standard is essentially when a set of principles is applied differently to two different groups, typically with one group more harshly applied upon than the other. Perhaps the most common double standard women face is those in the area of sex. When it comes down to men, they can typically have as much sex and they want and be praised for it by other males, with names like 'pimp' or 'player.' But the total opposite is applied with females. If they have too much of it, or even do it more than once in some cases, then they are called out for it with names like 'hoe' and 'slut.' The same goes for how females dress. If they dress too unfeminine they are called ugly and unattractive, but if they dress over-feminine then they will be named provocative.
